Month-long southbound I-35 lane closure begins April 1
Spring is here and we’re ready to begin the final year of construction on I-35 in Lino Lakes, Columbus and Forest Lake. This month, we’ll begin preparation work throughout the project area.
Beginning 8 a.m. Mon, April 1
, SB I-35 will be reduced to two lanes of traffic between 11th Ave. and just south of Hwy 97 for bridge work.
Also, you should expect periodic non-rush hour lane closures on both directions of I-35 at Hwy 8 and on I-35E, just south of the I-35E/I-35W split as crews gear up for bridge work and bypass lane construction. In both work areas, expect:
- Single lane of traffic for northbound travelers from 7 a.m. to 2 p.m.
- Single lane of traffic for SB travelers from 8 a.m. to 7 p.m.
The long-term SB lane closure and periodic off-peak lane closures will continue through April.
Long-term lane closures on I-35, I-35W and I-35E this year
In late April/early May, we’ll begin resurfacing I-35 from Hwy 97 to just south of the I-35E/I-35W split. We’ll be resurfacing the NB lanes during the first four months, and then the SB lanes. When resurfacing begins, we’ll need to shift traffic and reduce the number of travel lanes.
Please expect backups and delays during the long-term restrictions this year (especially on NB I-35W, which will be reduced to a single lane of traffic later this spring through September). Plan ahead and give yourself extra time to reach your destination. Stay tuned for future updates as work progresses.
