The Canadian Pacific (CP) Holiday Train will arrive in Minneapolis on Saturday, December 9, providing support for the Metro Food Programs at East Side Neighborhood Services.
Every year during the holiday season, the train travels throughout Canada and the Midwest, raising funds for a local food program at each stop along the way.
This year, Lions Park on 37th Avenue NE and Stinson Boulevard is the only location where the train stops in Minneapolis. Bordering Minneapolis, St. Anthony Village, and Columbia Heights, the Lions Park stop forms a trifecta of communities who come together for this family-friendly holiday lights experience. Although each Holiday Train event is completely free, CP encourages attendees to open their cupboards or wallets to ease hunger needs in their community. At the Minneapolis stop, non-perishable food donations to East Side’s Metro Food Programs will be matched pound for pound by Land O’Lakes. Prior to the train’s arrival in Minneapolis at 7:45 pm, East Side Neighborhood Services will host activities that include musical entertainment, family-friendly crafts, and refreshments.
East Side, whose mission is to support the healthy development and well-being of individuals and families, provides vital community programming in the Minneapolis metropolitan area and Northeast neighborhoods. Once the train arrives in Minneapolis, CP will present a check to East Side’s Metro Food Programs, which include the High Rise Mobile Food Shelf, the Senior Food Shelf, and the Glendale Food Shelf. These programs serve more than 3,000 Hennepin County households, specializing in services for those who may have difficulty accessing a brick-and-mortar grocery store. Last year, the Metro Food Programs delivered nearly 1 million pounds of food.
As the Holiday Train makes its festive journey, CP provides a decorated train covered in lights and a boxcar converted into a stage. In Minneapolis, this show car will open to feature performances from country stars Terri Clark, Dallas Smith, and Kelly Prescott.
A free shuttle bus service will run from the closed Walmart store in St. Anthony (3800 Silver Lake Road NE). Visit our website at esns.org or contact Sarah Gruidl, Marketing & Communications Associate, at sgruidl@esns.org for more information.
